The 1997 Mercedes E300TD W210 is a strong executive saloon from the W210 E Class range, known for its durability and smooth diesel performance. Powered by the reliable 3.0 litre inline six OM606 turbo diesel engine, it produces 175 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque as standard. Paired with a 5 speed automatic transmission and rear wheel drive, it delivers a refined yet capable drive, reaching 0 to 62 mph in 8.9 seconds with a top speed of 137 mph.

To enhance this solid platform, a Stage 1 ECU remap was carried out. This upgrade optimises fuel delivery and boost pressure, improving throttle response and significantly increasing torque. The result is stronger in gear acceleration, smoother power delivery, and a more responsive driving experience while maintaining the reliability these engines are known for.

Advanced Suspension and Dimensions

The Mercedes E300TD features a double wishbone front and multi link rear suspension setup, providing excellent ride comfort and stability. With a length of 4,800 mm and width of 1,800 mm, along with a kerb weight of around 1,530 kg, it offers a planted and composed feel on the road. Equipped with 215 by 55 R16 tyres and a 65 litre fuel tank, it achieves around 30 mpg combined, making it a practical long distance cruiser.

Following the Stage 1 remap, the increased torque output works seamlessly with the chassis, making overtaking more effortless and motorway driving more relaxed without compromising refinement.

When compared to rivals such as the BMW 5 Series diesel models of the same era, the E300TD stands out for its robust engineering and long term reliability. This Mercedes E300TD W210 Exhaust System upgrade enhances exhaust gas flow and reduces back pressure, allowing the engine to perform more efficiently. The result is improved responsiveness, better overall performance, and a deeper, more refined exhaust note that complements the character of this classic diesel.
